The European Parliament has rejected amendments aiming to forbid labels bearing names like hamburger, burger, steak, sausage and so on for foods chiefly consisting of vegetable proteins. Yet around the same time, it also voted for stricter regulations on dairy substitutes. In a plenary vote, the European Parliament confirmed the ban on the word ‘milk’ for products based on soya, almond and other non-animal sources.
