The European Parliament rescues the veggie burger but not plant-based milk


The European Parliament has rejected amendments aiming to forbid labels bearing names like hamburger
, burger, steak, sausage and so on for foods chiefly consisting of vegetable proteins. Yet around the same time, it also voted for stricter regulations on dairy substitutes. In a plenary vote, the European Parliament confirmed the ban on the word ‘milk’ for products based on soya, almond and other non-animal sources.
