10 February – World Pulses Day

Following the success of 2016 as the International Year of Pulses (IYP) promoted by the FAO, the UN General Assembly has established 10 February as World Pulses Day (WPD). This observance provides a unique opportunity to raise public awareness about the nutritional benefits of several foodstuffs, including pulses, which also help to promote sustainable agricultural practices. Indeed, the FAO has recognised pulses (legumes) as a versatile, nutritious food with a low environmental burden.
“Beans, chickpeas and other legumes (peas, green beans, fava beans and lentils) in regional culinary traditions” is also the Academy’s long-chosen theme for 2024.
