5 February is Italy’s National Food Waste Prevention Day, instituted by Last Minute Market’s Zero Waste (Spreco Zero) campaign under the auspices of the Ministry of the Environment. On that occasion, the new report by the Waste Watcher International Observatory was presented, including the case study data on Italy in 2024. Its analysis provides a snapshot of a more wasteful Italy, with daily per capita domestic food waste increasing from 75 to nearly 81 grammes; most alarming is the social effect of this, as the crisis affects families’ food choices.
